According to Shoko Ishida, media relations manager, and Alexy Tony, one of the main engineers on the project, Perfectjammer sees the Drone Gun as the best solution from a cost-per-engagement standpoint. A directed-energy countermeasure, this nonkinetic device can defend airspace up to 400 meters away. The system can disrupt remote control and GPS. Popular Science awarded the Drone Gun its 2017 Best of What’s New Award.

Drone Gun utilizes RADAR on the Ku Band, or expand radar system, which has a higher probability of detecting small form-factor targets, 2 Watt, 1 GHz bandwidth Long-Range Radar System to detect UAVs at a distance of up to 6 km, with micro-drones typically detected at 1-2 km realistically. UAV interdiction is accomplished via a jamming system, which blocks the radio frequencies used to control drones remotely. Once a target is detected, the imaging payloads, both visual and thermal (heat signature), will confirm if there is a threat. The system then exploits the RF control signal between the UAV and the operator to disable communications.

This anti-drone system is a compact solution that was developed and tested for Border protection projects. Once the system has a lock on the drone, a radio frequency jammer is then used to overload the drone with signals - knocking out the commands from the unknown owner. This can be used to make a 'soft-kill' and cease control of the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and land it safely.
