American prisons jamming test
Cell phone jammer is an electronic device that blocks transmission of signals between a cell phone and a base station. By using the same frequency as a mobile handset, the cell phone jammer creates strong interference for communication between the caller and receiver. It is effective in blocking transmission of signals from networks including UMTS, 3G, CDMA, GSM and PHS.
In January, NTIA said its researchers installed the jamming technology in a utility closet adjacent to a 13-by-eight foot cell on the ground floor of the prison's housing unit, according to the study. It successfully blocked cellphone transmissions in commercial bands between 700 and 2170 MHz, but did not disrupt commercial transmissions when monitored at 20 feet and 100 feet outside the cell, said the study.
Hamas prisoners in Israeli jails called for a hunger strike to begin on Sunday as a protest against cell-phone jamming equipment prison officials set up. Israeli prison officials have been negotiating for the last two days in an attempt to avert the strike.
To ease those tensions more, they would have more access to family and friends, they would make it easier to contact family and friends. So the cell phone jamming and those things, they can do whatever they want, we will find ways around it.
The U.S. Federal Bureau of Prisons tested cellphone-jamming technology at the state-run maximum security Broad River Correctional Institution in Columbia, South Carolina, last week, the Associated Press reported, in what the Verge noted may be a prelude to state prisons gaining more power to keep incarcerated persons out of contact with the outside world.
A senior home department official said 4G jammers, which have only recently been granted government approval, were not available earlier. “We have moved for their installation, and preliminary work is underway. Getting permission to use jammers and installing equipped with the latest technology takes time. But once installed, the devices will be the best and make all cellphones useless inside prison.”

The U.S. Justice Department on Friday said a test of so-called "micro-jamming technology" conducted at the Federal Correctional Institution at Cumberland, Md., may soon make such secreted prison cell phones all but useless.
